About Our Precious Stones
As the names imply, Precious Stones are always precious in this world.
The most popular ones are Diamond, Ruby, Emerald, Aquamarine, Sappfire and Opal.
Here are a few interesting facts about these Precious Stones.
Diamond
Diamonds are always at the top of the list of precious stones. They are considered as the most highly prized precious stones. There are many references for diamonds in history and historical fiction. Diamond has always been the best choice by people from all over the world for the wedding rings. Diamond is the birthstone for people who are born in April. It is the only precious stone that has a universally accepted grading system. It can be natural gem or artificially made. The most common method to measure a diamond is the 4C’s: CUT, CLARITY, CARAT, and COLOR.
Natural Occurrence :
South Africa (almost 50%), Brazil, Borneo, India, Venezuela and Guyana, Australia, Cong., Angola, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Russia.
Ruby
Ruby is a beautiful pink to red bloodstone, and is a birthstone for people who are born in July. Ruby is usually formed when the mineral corundum combined with chromium. The interesting facts is that in case of a ruby, the natural impurities actually add to the value of the stone. The price of the ruby is determined by its color, for example, pigeon blood red ruby is the most valuable one. Ruby is the second hardest precious stone, which is slightly less durable than the diamond.
Natural Occurrence :
Rubys are found in Burma which is now Myanmar, Thailand, Sri Lanka, South Africa, India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tanzania, Kenya, Nepal and Vietnam.
Emerald
Emerald, the green stone, is produced when the mineral beryl is combined with chromium and vanadium in the earth. Emerald also has impurities in their depth that add to the overall value of it. The inner light and reflective ability of this stone make it truly unique. The price of this stone depends upon its clarity and color. Deeper green to greenish blue emerald stones have the highest value on the market.
Natural Occurrence :
Emerald in best quality comes from Muzo mine in Colombia. Emeralds also found in India, Brazil, Australia, North Urals, Norway, Austria, South Africa, Rhodesia, Pakistan, Botswana, Kenya, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia and USA.
Aquamarine
Aquamarine is one of the most admired and very famous gemstones, and differentiates itself by a lot of first-rate qualities. Aquamarine name comes from the Latin phrase "water of the sea". It is approximately as accepted as the classics: ruby, sapphire and emerald. In reality it is connected to the emerald, both fit in to the beryl family. The stone color ranges from almost clear to rich blue in color, and it is sometimes heat treated to improve the color. Because of the clear, shining look of aquamarine, it is usually presented in a faceted cut, so that the faces of the stone jazz in the light.
Natural Occurrence :
Brazil, Pakistan, Myanmar, Russia, China, Namibia, Mozambique, Zambia, Kenya, United States, India, Siberia, Srilanka.
Sapphire
Sapphire is made from the same minerals as rubies but the different ratio of formation makes it different from ruby and gives it the blue color. The Sapphire is a hard stone, which is used in various kinds of applications other than mere jewelry. Sapphires are available in many different colors such as yellow, green, orange, purple, etc. However, these colors are not very common.
Natural Occurrence :
Best quality is found in Kashmir (India), Pakistan. It is also found in Burma, Australia (Anakie), Sri Lanka, Thailand (Kanchanaburi), Cambodia (Pailin), Tanzania, Finnish Lapland, South India, Northwest Kenya and USA (Montana, Yogo Gulch).
Opal
Opal is the birthstone of people who are born in the month of October. The most precious opal are black opals, they are found only in Australia. They are often called as the queen of gems. Opals are formed in the cavities of rock, often in sedimentary rocks. Opal is classified according to its body color as white opal, black opal, fire opals, crystal opals, and water opals.
